Understanding Inkjet And HP Deskjet Printers

A printer is a machine which essentially produces printed information obtained from digital sources like computers. Though there are a lot of variants available in the market when it comes to printers; different makers have different models. Furthermore, different printers work on different working principles.

Considering all types of printers available now, inkjet and deskjet are among the most extensively used types. Inkjet printers create digital images on paper utilising droplets of varying sizes (usually fifty to sixty microns in diameter), which appear on the paper. The resolution of the prints usually extends to 1440x720 dots per inch(dpi).

On the other hand, deskjet printers are nothing but the same inkjet printers, but the term ‘deskjet’ is generic and belongs to Hewlett-Packard (HP). HP named their inkjet printers as deskjet and these are available in an array of varieties. Coming in different sizes, they can be compact domestic printers or larger ones for regular and extensive use.

Deskjet printers have the ability to print three pages per minute. Though deskjet printers are nothing but HP’s version of normal inkjet printers, these printers function a little differently in terms of their printheads. This difference makes the working principle of HP printer cartridges distinct from the other branded cartridges. Printheads used in deskjet printers are inexpensive and disposable. Different technology is incorporated inside these cartridges so that they deliver a much higher print quality if compared to normal inkjet printer.

Different qualities of ink used in cartridges:

The word ‘jet’ in an inkjet printer has some significance. Nozzle-like elements are used to deploy the ink. The basic working principle of these printers is to spray ionised ink on paper, hence the name inkjet. Magnetised plates then direct the ink in a way to form an image on the paper.

Though deskjets are a little more expensive than normal inkjets, you get much better quality ink and prints. The edges of the letters visible on paper are smoother and clearer. Ironically, a cartridge of an inkjet printer is more expensive than that of a deskjet printer; still the performance of the deskjet printer cartridges are better.

Resolutions offered by the two types of printers:

The resolutions offered by in inkjet printer vary from 1200 x 1200 dpi to 4800 x 1200 dpi, whereas Deskjets offer resolution ranging from 600 x 600 dpi to 2400 x 2400 dpi.

These are some basic information about inkjet and Deskjet printers.
